It's just a normal day. You wake up, get ready and run out the door. An everyday occurrence, but without one simple object this daily routine would be drastically different. Consider what you would do on a cold, snowy day or a humid, rainy day without shoes. What would you do if you worked in a weedy, rocky yard without shoes? The lack of shoes manifests itself immediately when you go out onto the frozen ground or step on a nice thorny bush. But then, you say. After all, shoes alone get us pretty much everywhere we go. There are just entire stores dedicated to them. Shoes may seem so insignificant, but they are a window into human progress, creativity and taste. A shoe is classified by Dictionary.com as “an external covering for the human foot, usually. . . consisting of a. . . a stiff or heavy sole and a lighter upper part that ends just above, at, or below the ankle. The shoes are available in all colors, such as white, black, red and blue; and sizes, ranging from children's shoes to size 15, and even higher. They're also available in myriad styles, from formal to sporty to home, and shapes, including boxy, round, skinny, baggy and even foot-hugging. There are many varieties of shoes, such as sneakers, high heels, tennis shoes, and slippers. For almost any occasion, a shoe can be the finishing touch to an outfit. Shoes complement a dancer's uniform, provide a businessman's professional look, protect the boatman from the cold, and protect a cowboy from saddle wear or stings from cactus needles. Imagine how ridiculous a banker would look in sneakers or how badly a boatman would behave in slippers. It is known that shoes have been used since the dawn of human history. These shoes...... middle of paper...... people: allow the runner to run faster, the dancer to dance longer, the aspiring job seeker to look better and get the position, and the hiker to have a safer excursion. Yet shoes are so common, so everyday, that few people really think about them other than to choose which pair to buy. Most people never consider their shoes to be a work of art, but they actually are. Just as a painting expresses the artist's feelings, shoes reveal the personality of the wearer. The shoes may seem so lifeless, but they offer a glimpse into the progression, creativity and tastes of both the wearer in particular and the human race in general. Works CitedDictionary.com. Shoe.
