Great educational advances occurred in geography, astronomy, chemistry, physics, and engineering during the Renaissance. The discovery of ancient scientific texts, hidden because they were considered heresy and witchcraft, increased after the fall of Constantinople in 1453. Furthermore, thanks to the invention of the printing press which created new learning opportunities and enabled new ideas. But, at first, some see the Renaissance as a period of scientific regression. Humanists wanted people to study subjects such as politics and history in addition to studying philosophy or mathematics. Others have focused on the positive influence of science during the Renaissance, such as the discovery of the anatomy of the human body.
