Human development describes the life stages of humans as they progress from birth to death. This essay will use theorists Erik Erikson and Daniel Levinson to compare early adulthood to middle adulthood by focusing on their physical, cognitive, and social development. The essay will also define stress and discuss the best ways to deal with it. Young adulthood refers to adults between the ages of 20 and 40 (Berk, 2003). Young adults are at the peak of their physical development (Papalia, Olds, & Feldman, 2004). During this period, people will have more concerns about their health. Their health problems may include diet, weight, exercise, and addiction (Santrock, 2002). According to Vander Zanden (1997), Erikson states that during each developmental stage of life, individuals will face unique life events. These life events allow individuals to reach their level of growth throughout life (Vander Zanden, 1997). Papalia and Olds (1998) state that young adulthood is a time when it can be done. This is the stage where decision making is important. Exercise the freedom to be independent and use what they learned during adolescence. This is a time for exploration, trying things out, and weighing the pros and cons. This is also the stage where the individual chooses to stay away from family, to be independent, to make their own decisions, to buy their own home, to establish their budget, finances, housing and daily life. Furthermore, Erikson's Intimacy versus Isolation theory explained that young adults in this stage will think about being intimate or having a close relationship with a person (Miller, 1983). This could be a friend they can confide in or a sexual partner (Miller, 1983). Those who get married to you… in the middle of the card… and within a time frame. Individuals should consider their values and the things that have meaning in their lives. In conclusion, growth or the two phases of life are totally governed by a series of situations, parenting and events that influence the outcome of how individuals will behave. manage life changes. Mature people may encounter different levels of stressful situations or circumstances than younger adults.
