The preamble introduces the Constitution. It states that government comes from the people. Its general purposes are: To form a more perfect union we must “establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity.” (Remy, United States Government, McGraw Hill Company, Ohio, 2002) Its purpose is to create good government and good laws, to have peace in our homes, national security, healthy communities, and freedom for ourselves, our families, and our friends. The legislative branch is known as congress. They write the bills and go to congress to get to the president. Collaborates with the executive and judicial branches. It involves congressional approval of presidential nominations. Check the budget; can pass and veto laws about the president and can impeach him, which could remove the president from his post which is in the executive branch. In the legislative branch, the Senate confirms the president's appointments. Congress can impeach judges and remove them from office within the judicial branch. The judicial branch is known as the courts. These are the Supreme Court, the courts of appeals, and the district courts. This branch works with the legislative branch and the executive branch. Courts can go to the legislature and declare laws unconstitutional. The courts can also turn to the executive branch and declare the presidential act unconstitutional. The executive power is the president. As a result, the legislative branch is what I consider the most powerful and has the most influence over the others. The above facts demonstrate why the legislative branch has the greater influence on me and on the citizens of the United States as a whole than the other two branches.
