The story refers to book burnings and censorship in the modern era as the author wants to warn readers about technology taking over society and censorship issues in the future. In Fahrenheit 451, the government clearly doesn't want people to do certain things. things, for certain reasons. That's why the Nazis burned books and Joseph McCarthy convinced so many people to oppose actors and people he thought were communists.
