A. Field Questions and Geographic ContextHow are home prices affected by the location of shopping centers in the Washington DC metropolitan area? By sampling housing for sale within a 2-mile radius of two shopping malls in the Washington DC metropolitan area, it is possible to find the correlation between the location of the shopping centers and home prices. To answer this question, two shopping malls in the Washington DC metropolitan area will be examined. Tyson's Galleria, located in Tyson's Corner, between Vienna and McLean, Virginia, is the largest shopping mall in Virginia and is located 12.4 miles from Washington DC's Central Business District. The second shopping center examined is Landmark Mall, which is located in a triangle formed by Duke Street (Virginia State Route 236), Shirley Highway (I-395) and Van Dorn Street (Virginia State Route 401) in Alexandria, Virginia. By sampling similar accommodations and finding the price differences between accommodations near each shopping center, you can find a positive or negative correlation between the two factors. Tyson's Galleria shopping center has been very popular and successful in recent years, ever since it opened. The shopping center opened in 1968 and today houses over 300 shops and services. That success could be a factor in the price of homes near the mall, just what the survey will determine. The mall, on the other hand, has become unpopular and dilapidated in recent years. It opened in 1965 and filed for bankruptcy in April 2009. Again, this could impact home prices surrounding the area. AI relates to urbanization because it examines housing prices and determines the factors that influence them in an urban MEDC and in relation to a CBD (Washington DC)....... middle of paper..... .in evaluating this work, it is clear that the question has indeed been answered, and has done so with current and verified data; this in itself makes the internal evaluation a success.
