He saw his father only as a burden and no longer as the person who had made his life possible and everything he had done for him in his life. This reminded me of my grandmother during the Khmer Rouge because she had to face a really difficult decision to save her family. If she let her brother follow her, there was a chance they would all die. She had to let him go and it wasn't hard for her, but my grandparents, my mother and her siblings survived. He couldn't take that risk. Even though he loves his brother, he had a family to take care of and he had to put them first. These historical events are sad considering their repetition and how it brings out the competition between them
