This legendary general was born on February 12, 1893 in Clark, Missouri ("Biography of Omar Bradley"). The population of Clark, Missouri today numbers about 300 people, and you wouldn't think that a small-town boy like Bradley would eventually have the opportunity to grow up to become a military officer. But, when Bradley was working as a boiler builder on the Wabash Railroad, his Sunday school teacher asked him to take the entrance exam to the United States Military Academy at West Point. Originally, Bradley had planned to save money to enter the University of Missouri in Columbia to study law, but when the opportunity came, he immediately took it. While at West Point, his focus on sports, particularly baseball, prevented him from excelling academically. He was considered one of the most outstanding college baseball players in the United States during his Junior and Senior years at West Point.
