Career and Technical TrainingIn the sterile field of the cardiac catheter laboratory, a student watches over the head of a cardiologist as a surgical technician recounts his role in standard ablation. This is just one of many pivotal experiences a student in Liberty High School's Allied Health CTE program can expect. The student is following a path made available by the Western Maricopa Education Center and, if followed properly, can expect to graduate as a skilled worker in the medical field. Allied Health is just a small part of a much larger picture that provides ever-increasing opportunities for high school students before they graduate. Career and technical education courses are intended to prepare high school students to enter the workforce in a specialized field. Provides students with the experience and training needed to succeed in a mid-level job while maintaining student interest. In an article focusing on a CTE program for aviation, a “senior policy analyst at the Morrison Institute said career and technical education offers another opportunity for students who struggle in high school.” The assumption is that students who struggle in high school presumably don't want four more years of education to earn a college degree. Until recently, schools were overly college-prep oriented. The dogma was elementary school, high school, college, no exceptions. With this “one size fits all” education system in place, a different course of education had to evolve. CTE courses offer a break from the boring routine by introducing career preparation as an alternative. In lieu of four years in a college, CTE programs give the student…half of the document…r] to stay on top of [his] grant requests on behalf of [his] students because that is what allows the greater number of students to participate in the program. It's a constant struggle between encouraging [its] students to do well to demonstrate the value of the program and using the value of the program to earn more funding." He uses grants to purchase supplies to teach students in the program and help with costs. Overall, CTE programs are an extremely beneficial option for high school students. They give the student an inside look at the field they are considering and allows them to solidify their decision. or gives them the opportunity to change their career early While cost is a major factor when it comes to enabling these programs, giving the student the chance to learn and grow in an alternative environment can be worth the effort of raising money..
