Topic > The Pros and Cons of Plastic Surgery - 722

Today's society has brainwashed both men and women into believing that if you are considered beautiful you should look like the models shown in magazines, on television and in movies. This causes people to undergo plastic surgery. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, plastic surgery was first used in India as early as 800 BC. It not only improves self-image but also self-concept. Reconstructive methods have also been applied almost more to children than to adults. Plastic surgery is classified as either cosmetic or reconstructive surgery depending on the situation and the image you want to portray, but both have their pros and cons. Cosmetic surgery is mainly performed on people who wish to improve their physical characteristics. Some examples of cosmetic surgery include Botox, cheek waist, breast reduction, breast lift, tummy tuck reduction and more. According to the online post, "the number of men getting Botox has increased 25% this year and tripled since 2011." This shows that men are much more likely to undergo Botox than women because they want to change their reputation. For example, on the Huffpost Celebrity web page, singer-songwriter Toby Sheldon spent "nearly $100,000 on five years of plastic surgery to make him look like his idol Justin Bieber." Many people undergo cosmetic surgery to look like their idol or because they want to match someone else's ideal image. Cosmetic surgery is always a personal choice and is performed to satisfy yourself and not someone else's description of beauty. Cosmetic surgery not only has its positive results, but it also has a negative side.
