Topic > Animals in Captivity - 901

Every day, as people live their comfortable lives, animals are closer and closer to extinction. Animals live in fear of poaching, habitat destruction, and many other dangers that people could help control. People may have the ability to stop these problems, but few care, they would rather sit back and watch millions of animals die every year. Zoos are taking a leading role in the conservation of endangered animals by acting as sanctuaries and offering animals the protection they lack in the wild (“Zoos”). Without the help of zoos, many more species would disappear, never to be seen again. Zoos are not only important for animals held in captivity, but also for future wildlife because they offer animals a safe place to live and help prevent extinction. Zoos provide the protection and comfort that animals need to thrive. For the comfort of animals, zoos have begun to build exhibits as similar as possible to the animals' natural habitat (“Zoo”). These natural exhibits stimulate the animals, which allows for more natural behavior. The animals' natural behaviors and comfortable exhibits allow the public to observe and learn from these interesting animals, while the animals live a life of luxury that would not be possible in the wild. The animals are fed, cleaned and monitored by their keepers ("Zoo"). In nature, animals struggle every day just to fill their empty stomachs. However, in captivity, animals don't have to worry about when they will get their next meal because zookeepers are there to provide them with everything they need to live a long and happy life. Twins are common among pandas, but in the wild the mother would not be able to care for both, so one of the two would eventually die; However, in captivity, scientists can care for a baby while ... middle of paper ... try to conserve the world's amazing animals so that people never have to answer this disturbing question.
