Food Inc PaperThis essay will be about the book titled Food Inc written by Karl Weber. The topics of this essay will be based on obesity, pesticides, and animal farming. The discussion of this document will cover the problems of the topic in the first paragraphs while the second paragraphs will cover the solutions to the problems of the topic that is occurring in the United States. Each topic will delve into the problems happening today with the food we consume every day. The obesity crisis is currently increasing dramatically over the years. Researchers are finding that pesticides have caused cancer and other diseases. Animal agriculture is becoming a big issue in regards to how the top 4 companies own 80% of the market and what we eat today. Those were just hints of what will be further explained in this article. Obesity The obesity crisis is proving to be a major problem in America today. According to the CDC, more than one-third of U.S. adults are obese. Such related conditions include heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and many others. Also from the CDC, the estimated medical cost of obesity in the United States each year was $147 billion in 2008. Nowadays, obesity is spreading among children due to the fast food industry caters to the younger audience with their food. Fast food was created at a very low price and has proven to be a major cause of obesity. People now consume too many calories, and the calories they consume from fast food are all calories from fat. All ingredients have no nutritional amounts for the body. Fast food contains high-fat components that endanger the health of consumers. Salt, fat and sugar are becoming available everywhere. Figure 5: Cow House: This image is on a cow farm with tons of cows just minding their own business. In conclusion, the topics covered in this article were obesity, pesticides and animal farms. The obesity crisis is rapidly increasing due to neglecting a well-balanced meal, making efforts to exercise and considering spending more at the supermarket than at a cheap fast food restaurant. The next topic was about pesticides: workers are developing pesticide poisoning, linked to cancer, and all pesticides need to be removed and they need to develop a safer way of pest control. The last topic concerned animal farming, animals should respectively be cared for and have better living conditions before being slaughtered.
