Divine Inspiration and Interpretation of the ScripturesThe Holy Mother Church, relying on the faith of the apostolic age, accepts as sacred and canonical the books of the Old and New Testaments intact with all their parts on the motif which, written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, have God as their author and as such have been handed down to the Church itself. Thus «all Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be fully equipped for every good work (2 Tim 3:16-17). The elect had written down words inspired by the Holy Spirit that revealed what God wanted written. The inspiration of the Holy Spirit concerns not only one phase, but all phases of the long course of the transmission of divine revelation. Not only were the prophets, apostles, and authors of the Bible inspired by the Holy Spirit in their words and deeds, not only were the leaders of the holy Catholic church inspired by the Holy Spirit when choosing which books to include in the biblical canon. But the Holy Spirit was present every step of the way. Every part of Scripture, down to the last detail, was equally inspired by God, who is a master author, moved the human author to write to write what he intended. This inspiration necessarily meant that Scripture was completely free from error in both religious and secular matters. questions-in which religious and profane matters. Vatican
