Topic > Essay on Ethical Egoist - 1150

The Egoist believes in acting in ways that lead to what is in their best interest in the long term and will ultimately benefit them in the long run. In saying this, doing what we always want to do cannot concern a selfish person because what we always want to do may not be what is in our best interest in the long term. For example, one day you may want to drop out of school because you have too much work. This act will most likely lead to you being unemployed in the future, working a low-paying full-time job, or feeling unfulfilled for the rest of your life. Dropping out of school might be what you want to do; however, it is not in your best interest to do so because it will not bring you long-term benefits. A selfish person would do the opposite, stay in school, knowing full well that an education can be extremely beneficial to his or her long-term better.
