There are situations that make the development of a country complicated, and sometimes those circumstances are not always in the hands of the country's government. When this happens, it seems that the country's progress is called into question and resources that were once unlimited become limited and the country is at a standstill and no improvements are made. For Chile, the moment of struggle came when Salvador Allende, a member of the left party and leader of the Unidad Popular (Popular Unity), became president of the country in November 1970. Salvador Allende was a left-wing thinker and for the United United, as well as President Nixon, feared that this election would change many things and did everything in their power to stop the rise of Salvador Allende as president of Chile (Oscar Guardiola-Rivera, 164). The United States considered the election of a left-wing political party to be somewhat disconcerting, in this case the mentality of a country pushing towards a socialist/Marxist government, but not for reasons of political differences, but for the economic hegemony that was about to be lost. When Allende came to the presidency, change in economic growth was one of the things he pushed for, and the United States saw this as a major threat. It was a threat because the United States had a lot of business within the country and with Allende in charge, this made relations between the two nations complicated (John Pike). The United States wanted control of its growing assets, as well as other monetary locations within the country, and Allende did not want foreign investments to get their hands on major resources that would help the country's finances. The working relationship between the two pushed the United States to the extreme decision to carry out a coup d'état on September 11th 1...... middle of paper ......carrying out such as the nationalization of some industries, but these victories did not last long. The constant involvement of US capitalism has prevented growth, not only politically, but also economically. The political conflict that Chile received from the United States did not help matters; it has only made interactions in the country's economic development more difficult. The fact that the United States pushed for economic blockades on all American companies and some foreign businesses prevented Chile from increasing its income and corporate profits and made the economic flow of income unstable for Allende's time . The country of Chile has not succeeded on its path to socialism and has not had a very successful economy, which has prevented the country from growing and becoming independent and not being dependent on foreign companies to help its income increase.
