I believe that the coercive power of senior male subordinates in an organization, for example, can instill extreme fears among female workers, particularly in US culture due to the stereotypical perception that women should be very respectful towards their men. Furthermore, subordinate employees fear punishment from seniors and may avoid conflicts with these people. On a personal level, employees who exercise this type of power through rank usually instill fear among subordinates (Rahim, 2011). If a manager has coercive power over a subordinate employee, he or she can suspend, demote, or fire an employee.
