Funding Fine Arts in Schools - Abstract This article addresses the struggle that fine arts is facing in school systems today. Fine arts include music, art, theater and dance. Funding for most, if not all, school systems is under threat in the worst way possible. Without adequate funding, these programs will become nonexistent in children's lives. Not only are the programs mentioned above responsible for the majority of entertainment in today's school systems, but there are many studies that show the significant and positive impacts that fine arts such as theater, art, and dance have on students . State and national funding challenges for the programs will be discussed below, as well as possible solutions that can be taken to keep these programs available in schools. Fine arts programs are programs in schools that are typically focused on both vocal and instrumental music. , art, dance and theater (Musica e arti, 2002). These programs are responsible for most of the entertainment in most public schools. Arts programs, which have always had a shaky existence in public schools, are now making academic claims to encourage their school districts to keep them on budget when money is tight (Title I Programs Struggle for Funding, 2003). Although many education professionals link overall academic achievement to these arts programs, these programs are still in danger of dying out if massive budget cuts continue. Many schools today have established various art programs. These programs range from music programs, both vocal and instrumental, visual arts, theater and dance. The music courses include both vocal and instrumental teachings. Typically, children specified the music lessons they attend...... middle of paper ......cesAmericans for the arts. (2003).
