My choice of undergraduate nursing didn't just come to me like that, it took working with my mother in our family-owned businesses to see exactly how nurses positively impact people's lives. During this time she helped me understand how challenging a career in adult nursing is and what I should expect. Next, I spent a few months working with my mother in her office, observing how healthcare workers are trained from lifting people with hoists to first aid procedures. My favorite thing about nurses is that they are always there to witness and celebrate incredible moments in people's lives, from giving birth to finding out they are cancer-free. For this reason I have a lot of respect for nurses and I thought about pursuing this career. Say no to plagiarism. Get a tailor-made essay on "Why Violent Video Games Shouldn't Be Banned"? Get an Original Essay My Experience in Nursing While doing outreach with the local EL-Shaddai church, I took part in many seminars related to health and social care where nurses would come to our church and talk about different topics. These included blood donation, mental health and AIDS, all topics I found interest in, I later became interested in nursing. Subsequently, I took a summer job in an adult care home, even though the role was only during the summer holidays. Now I had seen firsthand what nurses do to help patients and families. While I was in the care home I saw how they helped people in every aspect of their lives, from helping them get up for breakfast in the morning to asking them what they would like to have for lunch that day. The part I enjoyed the most was seeing the personal connection the nurses gained from being with their patients; things like birthdays and wedding anniversaries were all celebrated in the nursing home. Nurses and aides always called family members to help organize special events and activities for the residents. During this time I have also seen some of the challenging aspects of the job from residents suffering from mental illness who are not cooperating with the staff, through this I have seen that nursing requires someone with a patient caring personality who can wait and see the things from another person's point of view. Choosing my path Initially, when I started my sixth year I didn't know what career path I wanted to take, I thought about many things like pilot, astronaut, etc. One of the ways I came to the nursing decision was during my placement in my first year of sixth form. I was assigned to the local charity Ontrak. During this time I was working with young adults who had been expelled from school due to their behavior. In my role, I had to write about what these adults did in Ontrak and how they helped the community, while I met several adults who were in Ontrak with community order sentences. They explained that they needed help due to mental health issues, but that they didn't.
