Undoubtedly, young people are the precious heritage of a country. But if they take the wrong path in life, it could also turn into serious liabilities. Khera (2002) states that “people can be your greatest asset or your greatest liability”. It could act as a disease that will destroy a nation day by day, contributing to the degradation of moral values in today's youth. One of the most common diseases is moral decline. Due to this decline, young people behave rudely to elders and boys, tease girls, disrespect their parents and teachers, commit social crimes, and their families also suffer badly because of their activity. This article is based on secondary data and aims to find out the possible reasons behind this type of behavior and the possible remedies. Say no to plagiarism. Get an original essay Context of the study The researchers have been engaged in university teaching for more than three years. During this period of time they have experienced that a significant number of their students have low moral values and customs, lack of mannerism and patience, becoming short-tempered and aggressive day by day. They argue with each other for almost no reason; regardless of the presence of the elderly, even their teachers; smoking publicly; use slang here and there, and so on. To be honest, this condition is not only found among their students but also among the young generations surrounding our society. The rape incident is perhaps one of the major effects of ethical dissolution in Bangladesh. Therefore, the increase in criminal activities proves that moral degeneration is evolving severely in Bangladesh. Furthermore, families in which a member gets involved in a vicious act, have to face several consequences such as facing criticism, enduring contempt, losing relationships, facing legal issues, and tolerating community-based evaluations. The young people involved in these various activities in many cases do not continue their studies; rather they often find themselves involved in sinful activities such as teasing, drug taking and trafficking under political identity, political fighting, hijacking, threats, leaking questions of different board exams and job exams and so on (Haque & Karim, 2018 ). These people make society unsafe and uncomfortable for the living. Unfortunately, most young people engage enormously in these activities and create many obstacles for the State precisely because of moral decadence. However, they could become assets and blessings of the country. A similar situation is also observed abroad. While visiting London, England, Huq (2012) described that the current generation lives a purposeless life, they live like animals. He also added that they are ignorant, irresponsible, rude, stupid and shameless. While staying in Melbourne, Australia, another teacher expressed his similar feelings towards the younger generation. Young people are inconsiderate, do not respect teachers at all and show such an attitude that they pay money for education. So, they should not be disappointed with the institute (MM Rahman, personal communication, May 9, 2019).This whole situation encouraged the authors to discover the reasons behind this type of change in young people's behavior and to find remedies. Objectives The main objectives of this study are to research the reasons for the degradation of youth morality and find out the probable solutions to it. Other objectives are:Focus on various activities carried out by morally lapsed youth.Create public awareness regarding youth ethical deterioration.Identify possible strategies to resolve the problem.Attract the attention of the concerned authority so that they can take action at the national level by imposing norms and regulations.MethodologyThe study is fundamentally qualitative in nature. An exploratory research was then carried out. To complete the research report, data was collected mainly from secondary sources such as peer-reviewed journal articles, books, newspapers, dictionaries, websites, and other online resources. A professor who served in a foreign university was also interviewed. To a certain extent, unstructured observation was also carried out on some children.DefinitionsBefore moving on to the detailed discussion on the chosen topic, it is necessary to clarify the meaning of the terms. Let's look at the following definitions: Youth: Merriam-Webster (n.d.) refers to the fact that youth can be defined as the early period of existence, growth, or development. To specify age Smith (2018) suggests that political commentators most frequently appear to use the term “youth” to describe those under 25, but at least one has suggested that “youth” extends into the mid-forties years. Moral: According to Dictionary.com (n.d.), the moral teaching or lesson relating to practice enshrined in a myth, story, experience, etc. can be defined as moral. “Standards of good or bad character and behavior” are moral (Cambridge Dictionary, n.d.). In both cases morality was defined as a noun. But in the title of this article it was used as an adjective. Let's look at some definitions of moral as an adjective. Morality is connecting with the parameters of good or bad behavior, fairness, honesty, etc. in which all trust, rather than with laws (Cambridge Dictionary, n.d.). Additionally, Vocabulary.com (n.d.) states that morality is “concerning the principles of right and wrong or conforming to standards of behavior and character based on such principles.” Atrophy: Refers to wasting, especially due to the degeneration of cells. , or become vestigial during evolution (English Oxford Living Dictionaries, n.d.). Where Merriam-Webster (n.d.) states it as a wasting away or progressive decline. Synonyms of atrophy are decay, decline, decay, decadence, decomposition, wilting, deterioration, collapse (informal), wilting, degeneration, diminution (Collins, n.d.). Therefore, the degradation or decentralization of principles or standards is reflected in young life can be treated as youthful moral atrophy. For example, in most cases it has been found that young people behave rudely with elderly people in public transport while traveling; young males tease girls on the street by saying swear words; nowadays it is very common for both young males and females to do drugs and consume alcohol; young people are mostly involved in crime, we can find it in normal newspapers; it turns out that students of all levels also do not respect their teachers, and so on. Reasons for the Degradation of Youth Moral Values Based on the observation and review of various literatures, researchers have identified several reasons responsible for youth moral degradation. They classified theseproblems in four groups. These are discussed below: Family Among all the reasons, family plays the most influential role in pushing young people into danger. True love sometimes acts like a medicine in very critical moments. It has the dominant power to save a person from an uncontrollable situation. But when a child does not get the right love and affection from the family but continuous neglect and ignorance, it will bring negative energy in his mind. As a result, they channel that negative energy into committing crimes (Secure Teen, 2015). Apart from this, nowadays in most of the urban families where both father and mother are busy or busy in their work and cannot give enough time to their children, day by day the children lose control. In the long term they engage in violence (Witmer, 2019). In support of Whitmer's finding Enyinnaya (2015) said a similar thing. It states that bad parenting can create worry, hatred, inferiority complex, anger and other negative emotions in a child. Sometimes parents are unaware of the reason for the change in behavior in their children. In homes where family violence has become a daily routine, the children of those families learn the same thing automatically. As a result, when they become young they behave similarly to what they learned from their family (Witmer, 2019). Third-party authors included neighborhood, peers, and politics in this group. These three parties also act as catalysts for the moral atrophy of young people. Neighborhood can make teens behave more viciously. In a neighborhood where adolescents are forced to engage in gangs where fighting is common, adolescents become aggressive and behave violently (Witmer, 2019). “A man is recognized by the company he keeps” is a very common proverb. But its truth is observed in every corner of the world. Bad company can ruin a life. Young people are easily influenced by their friends. The young person who has a group of immoral friends is more likely to be a criminal. Teens prefer to commit crimes in a group form, which makes them exciting and also reduces the chances of getting caught (Secure Teen, 2015). Politics is for the benefit of ordinary people. But nowadays political parties abuse youth for the sake of political success. Hence, political abuse is one of the root causes of moral deviation among youth (Ara and Mahjabeen, 2010). Young people themselves Some causes are for which young people themselves are responsible. Therefore, the authors have incorporated such causes under this title. Drugs are one of the dangerous tools to make a person's life vanish. Drug and alcohol use impairs a person's judgment. For this reason, the propensity for crime among adolescents increases (Secure Teen, 2015). The intensity of drug and alcohol use does not emerge overnight. Basically start by taking them as funny. When a child uses recreational drugs, it feels good. But in the long term it creates incredible effects such as depression, anger and frustration. This can lead to an adolescent displaying aggressive behavior (Haque & Karim, 2018). The set of traits that differentiate one person from another is his personality. The person with a strong personality can do positive things while the person with a weak personality can do some works which are unexpected. Shyness, for example, can cause a student to feel out of place among his or her peers. So this situation pushes him to be rebellious or to try to get noticed by others by any means. As a result, he engages in gang fights (Enyinnaya, 2015). Human beings are not satisfied withwhat they have. It is not only found in adults but also in adolescents. They are often attracted to the lifestyle of their rich friends. They need a lot of money to accompany those friends. To raise money, young people adopt wrong methods such as theft. But as time goes by they continue to fall further and further into a life of crime (Secure Teen, 2015). A very common proverb is "an idle brain is the devil's workshop". It is important to use a person's free time effectively. But since he has no idea to utilize free time properly, a teenager chooses any destructive work like watching pornography, visiting confidential websites, online dating on social media etc. Thus, lack of enforcement of leisure is a major cause of moral deviation (Ara & Mahjabeen, 2010). Bullying gives rise to other crimes. Adolescents who mistreat others are likely to become criminals in the future. On the other hand, victims of bullying may turn into criminals just to take revenge (Secure Teen, 2015).OthersThe reasons that are not directly related to the family, themselves and third parties have been included under others. The media is a powerful tool for influencing a society. It brings both good and bad things. What children learn through the media they want to apply in their practical lives. They are often influenced by their favorite TV characters in action movies. And this leads them to behave violently in their educational institution (Enyinnaya, 2015). Furthermore, “research on violent television, movies, video games, and music reveals unequivocal evidence that violence in the media increases the likelihood of aggressive and violent behavior in both immediate and long-term contexts.” (Anderson et al., 2003, p. 81). Sometimes, a few events can fully represent a person's usual life situation. It could be better or worse. A situation like the death of a very close person extremely affects the mind. This is called a traumatic event. Due to such a traumatic event, a teenager suffers a severe attack and is shocked. Eventually, he may behave in anger, and in the long run, anger turns into violence (Witmer, 2019). Religion provides us with a moral foundation. It establishes in our mind the seed of judgment about what is right and wrong. We can know this through moral education. But there is a huge gap in the connection between religion and modern education (Sunday, 2017). Due to this gap, young generations perform many unaccepted works. Some other root causes of moral deviation are as follows: Lack of proper education Unemployment and poverty Lack of family control Ineffective role of law enforcement organization Impact of foreign culture, etc. Through in-depth study and personal observations, the authors have found that these above factors are more or less responsible for youth moral decline. Possible solutions to youth moral degradation If the reasons have been identified, possible solutions will be easier to find. A common proverb is “where there is a problem, there is a solution”. The researchers recommended the role of the four parties as solutions to the problem created by the youth. Measures that can be taken to reduce juvenile molar atrophy are: The role of parents or guardians Parents play a crucial role in influencing their child's behavior. Time spent with parents' love and affection helps children refrain from bad deeds. Parents need to ensure good communication and a violence-free atmosphere at home, where the child is raised and feels safe in expressing his or her opinions and feelings (Enyinnaya, 2015). THEparents should increase moral values among children from the beginning of their lives by strengthening family bonds and strengthening interpersonal communication (Ara & Mahjabeen, 2010). They should also closely monitor people who have close intimacy with their children. Parents should also modify their language, acts and behavior in front of their children because children are like sponges, sculpting and incorporating everything they see and do into their daily lives. Parents can also seek professional advice on what type of video games and TV shows they should show their children (Enyinnaya, 2015). Furthermore, in the extended family instead of the nuclear family, where both parents work, parents also play a vital role in shaping the moral and religious values and customs of children. Parents can also take their children to holy places, inspire them to maintain religious norms such as fasting, prayer, singing etc. The role of the educational institution The main objective of education is to evolve the good, the true and the divine in man so as to establish a moral life in the world. The main function of education is to enrich character and act as a powerful tool to cultivate values in an individual. In all types of educational institutions, from primary to tertiary level, there should be a system of regular counseling on anger management, conflict resolution, character development and a host of other issues that will help resolve psychological problems associated with institutional violence (Enyinnaya, 2015). According to GKToday (2015), to inculcate values many educators have suggested different ideas such as: Providing values-based curricula Values-based core courses Publishing values-based literature Need for developing codes of conduct for teachers and students Instilling a philosophical view of life between teachers and students. Many academics have little power to redesign their own curriculum. They can include information on the negative consequences of drug use and drug use prevention in formal education textbooks from grade four to grade ten (Ara & Mahjabeen, 2010). The Role of Government In every country the government is the most influential body to enforce the law and regulations for any industry. Of course, to reduce moral decadence among the younger generation, the government can play a substantial role. Government should stop the supply and availability of drugs. It should also take initiative to give exemplary punishment to drug dealers (Ara & Mahjabeen, 2010). Smoking in a public place is a punishable offence. But as time passes, everyone will forget it. Government should take the necessary actions to implement the rule again. If any young person commits the same or another crime, prompt and consistent punishment can reduce its occurrence (Netherlands Government, n.d.). The change that most educational institutions cannot make, can easily be made by the government. It can include life skills education such as stress management, emotion management, building self-awareness, empathy, etc. in the national curriculum. (Ara & Mahjabeen, 2010). After that, the government. can facilitate imams to take part in the training program while respecting the awareness of young people. The role of NGOsNon-governmental organizations, the larger community, working in Bangladesh such as Brac, Asha, TMSS etc. can influence society in a positive way. They have a great contribution in circulating important messages across the country in an interesting and effective way. Various programs-2611437
