The memorable quote that I will analyze in this report is the one on page 9, of the chapter entitled Boys & Girls. The quote I chose is “Until they are a red balloon tied to an anchor. ”ProtagonistTo begin with, the protagonist of this novel is Esperanza, the narrator, who is the protagonist. For example, Esperanza is the kind person in the novel because she becomes more mature through the book. Within the novel, The House on Mango Street implies, “q.” This evidence explains it. The Antagonist In the beginning, Esperanza had to face situations. For example, at the beginning of the book Esperanza had to go through a trial where she had no one she could trust who would also tell her secrets. On page 8 of the novel it states: “Nenny is too young to be my friend. One day I will have a friend of my own. One to whom I can also tell my secrets. One who will understand my jokes without me having to explain them. ” This evidence explains that he has no one to talk to even his sister because his sister is too young. In the end, Esperanza had some problems too. Plot Summary To begin with, the plot summary is the joys and sorrows that Esperanza experiences. For example, one of the painful experiences Esperanza had was when she had to deal with the death of Aunt Lupe. In The House on Mango Street, it states: “Lucy and Rachel pray. For ourselves and for each other... because of what we did to Aunt Lupe. ” (pg. 58) This evidence illustrates that Esperanza is also afraid of going to hell because Lucy, Rachel, and she were imitating the ant Lupe before he died. Another example that shows how Esperanza experienced a joyful moment was when her neighborhood monkey also moved to Kentucky. For example, the author writes that: “The monkey moved to Kentucky and took his people with him. And I was happy because I could no longer hear even his wild screams at night, the vibrant yakkety-yak of the people who owned him” (p. 94). Esperanza is also happy that that family of monkeys is leaving because she no longer has to hear the monkey scream. All in all, Esperanza had some joyful moments and some painful moments throughout the novel. AnalysisMy take on this novel is that I don't recommend it for many reasons. For example, one of the reasons I don't recommend it is because it's scary, like when Esperanza gets raped.
