Family, as most people would say, is everything. Some people would even go so far as to make a list like: God first, family second, self third. In general, one could easily say that the word family is a single word with different meanings compared to how different individuals perceive it. I would say that family varies with respect to our economic, cultural and social backgrounds, to name a few. Regardless, one thing every family has in common is that the people who call them family make it obvious that those people are very important to the person who calls them their family. Get an original essay Susan Sontag, American writer, director, teacher and philosopher, wrote an incredible article on photography, in which she discusses family photography, in In her book she talks about what the first popular use of photography was, she explains that it was used to "commemorate the achievements of individuals considered members of families (as well as other groups)". Sontag went on to explain that “photography came to commemorate, to symbolically reaffirm, the imperiled continuity and evanescent extension of family life.” He explained how some photographs are sometimes not the true reflection of what was happening at that particular moment. Santog also explained that one of the saddest effects photography has on society in general is when people have the choice to save a life or take a photo of what is happening. Overall, Sontag's view on photography reveals views on the ways in which photography has to some extent influenced society, adumbrating moments captured through the lens of a camera. I come from a family where all photographs taken have significant meaning. Some photographs of my family can be dated to around 40-50 years ago. Although at that point my family did not have their own personal camera, word reached my generation that normally my family would use the services of a professional photographer to sometimes take photos of my family members at events and sometimes simply to come and take personal photographs. .One cool thing about my family is that all the photos have to be taken multiple times so everyone has one for themselves. The photo I will analyze is a photo from 60 years ago. Looking at the image, you will notice that the image involves three people. Two young women and a little boy. I could easily tell how happy the boy in the photo was, his face seen in the photograph is covered with a huge smile. It was family photo day and the little boy wanted to be in everyone's photo. The two young women standing next to him are his sisters who form the expression on the face of one of them stressed by the threat of their little brother. Furthermore, while the boy in the photo is wearing a t-shirt with a character drawn on it, his sisters appear to be wearing a silky t-shirt, a typical old school material that was common among young people in the 60s. The image is posed calmly and unconsciously. I see the two young women looking into the distance as they try to look into the camera lens while holding their brother down with their hands resting on the boy's thighs. Also, I can tell from the photo that the young lady on the left is quite fond of jewelry, as there are many bracelets sliding down her wrist and huge earrings hanging down her ear. She also looked like the older of the two sisters considering.
