I have learned a lot about Chinese culture throughout my career. Therefore, I can argue that there are many differences between Chinese and traditional culture. The Chinese approach tends to focus on yin and yang, which refers to mind, body and spirit. Yin and yang are seen as dynamic, complementary and not necessarily opposites. It symbolizes that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. The Chinese believe that there is a relationship between their body, the environment and social factors. For example, “childbirth causes a loss of yang, or heat, which must be restored.” This is why there are particular foods to consume, rest times and control of body temperature to stay healthy. Therefore, they do not violate the traditions and wisdom of their culture for the sake of their health. In the United States, however, opinions are very different. People see pregnancy as a fragile state, but many do not believe in or adhere to the same Chinese philosophies. Most women usually receive early and regular prenatal care, which is an important part of pregnancy. Visit the doctor regularly to make sure the mother and baby are well. Unlike the Chinese, the American doctor usually resorts to pills, be they multivitamins or iron
