To get an idea of how lifestyle has changed in the UAE, I interviewed my grandmother about her lifestyle in terms of nutrition and physical activity during the time she was in primary school. My grandmother was born in 1961 and grew up in a small village. His mother was a housewife and his father was a police officer. They had a vegetable and date palm farm and also raised camels, goats and chickens. The food was very simple and there were many foods imported from India and Oman such as fruit and rice; but grandma's diet was almost healthy. For breakfast he ate seven pieces of dates, wholemeal bread with milk. She was having the Paratha bread that her mother made for her at home at school for lunch, with cheese in it. In the evening he usually ate rice with milk, honey with bread, lentils. In winter they preferred to eat salad. They ate only one hot meal a day. They ate a lot of rice and dates.
