Should citizens receiving assistance be subjected to drug testing before they can receive the help they “need”? One of the main issues with drug testing people who collect welfare is whether it's worth it. It takes large amounts of money to subject people to these tests and may not be worth it. Some people argue that the money used for drug testing recipients is more than the amount saved by not distributing the money to welfare. A final argument is whether drug testing is legal and constitutional. It can be argued that forcing people to undergo drug tests violates people's rights. Welfare recipients taking drug tests has its positives and negatives. Some say it is unconstitutional, while others say the money is being used to buy more drugs. Welfare recipients taking drug tests is a major point of controversy with issues such as the value of the effort, saving money, and the legality of testing in general. An important question in welfare recipients taking drug tests is whether it is worth all the effort it takes. . Drug tests take time to develop, and some citizens may need money quickly. If a facility doesn't have the proper technology, the results of a drug test could take days to arrive. Many states have enacted these laws but have not implemented them properly, which has led to them not being done well (Greenblatt 11). It would take a long time when they “….required drug testing on every individual…” (Aversa 16). If you were to test the drug on every individual, it could take decades to do all the tests. Many people are forced to undergo drug testing at various levels and in necessary workplaces, which would cost even more money.
