Affordable Care Act Because of the Affordable Care Act, the middle class will not have the finances to support the daily cost of living in Indiana. Americans are already struggling to survive in a recovering economy. Now they have to deal with higher premiums and steeper penalties if they don't enroll in the Affordable Care Act. The full name of this law is the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The law was passed two years ago and has had problems ever since since its entry into force (Impact). The Affordable Care Act was supported by all Democratic lawmakers and President Obama. The Affordable Care Act represents the largest health care reform of the last forty years. The bill was passed by both the House of Representatives and the Senate on the weekend of December 24 and 25 (Thomma). The law was designed to provide health insurance to all uninsured Americans. The law requires all businesses to provide health insurance to all employees and all uninsured Americans to require health insurance (Thomma). The bill would have lowered premiums by $2,500. The percentage of workers enrolled in high-premium health plans more than doubled when the Affordable Care Act (Reed) was signed into law. The Affordable Care Act was signed into law nearly three years ago. The consequences are still being felt, given that the law has not yet been fully effective (Affordable). The federal government's health exchange site ran into problems even before it opened to the public. It took weeks to resolve the issues. The entire Affordable Care Act has a price tag of five billion dollars. The goal was to cover 375,000 uninsured Americans, now only 45,000 have signed up...halfway through...expected to increase by up to 160 percent (Works Cited"Impacts of the Affordable Care Act."
