Power and territory became their motivations over time. In the film, one of the inmates states that MS 13 is run by a leader. Other sources say there are multiple. The most frightening feature of the MS 13 is that they represent an internal threat to the United States, of which we have only scratched the surface. MS 13 is growing in numbers and going national. They are not just street criminals, but officials and businessmen in suits. MS 13 is organized and structured. They recruit children as young as seven. A seven-year-old child will receive a less harsh sentence than an adult. The prison is also a prime location for the recruitment and education of soon-to-be-released criminals. As I said before, they come in as novice members and come out as trained career criminals. Because prison is an important step, many of MS 13's activities are run by leaders in prison. The film showed that in prison leaders have access to protection, healthcare and a simple life with power. In some prisons, MS 13s are the only occupants. MS 13 is a well-oiled machine. Nothing happens without a leader's green light. Brenda Paz, for example, was a seventeen-year-old gang member who was killed by her friends because she was an FBI informant. This did not happen without a thorough investigation into the gangs. As I said before, the only way out of MS 13 is death. Even if we cut off the snake's head, its venom would already spread across the United States like a virus. The United States accidentally created a monster by ignoring the problems of criminal gangs from the beginning. They now have a powerful influence on our culture.
