When my children were little, TV commercials on television were such an intrusive force in our home that I actually turned off cable TV for about ten years. I'm not going to lie, there were times at Christmas and birthdays where I wish I had that marketing because they didn't really have a wish list. They didn't really ask for anything. I turned on the television when my daughters were little and 9/11 happened. It was such a scary time and I needed to stay informed. Girls grew up with advertising that boys didn't. The contrast I witnessed was first hand. They wanted a pet with a pillow, moon sand, and let's not forget the WII because then they would get exercise while playing with that. My girls fell in love with the colorful ones that move fast
