This thesis closely examines the impact and significance of Hugo Chavez's legacy on the Venezuelan population and neighboring nations during his reign. The essay evaluates the rigid and infamous public relations that Chávez had with other superpowers in the world, but more precisely with the United States of America. The thesis focuses on how the former leader achieved his position of power under an unconventional and corruption-tainted Venezuelan government. Furthermore, the thesis will discuss some of the achievements achieved by Chavez after his emergence through the failed coup d'état of 1994 and finally his victory in the democratic elections of 1998. Achievements such as the reform of the healthcare sector, the development of the sustainable economy of Venezuela during his tenure, and, most importantly, Chavez's fervent support for a superior education system for his people. Finally, I will discuss possible scenarios for the future of Venezuela under the leadership of the newly elected Nicolas Maduro. The United States has had a long history of violence and political tension with Venezuela, referenced as early as 1900 with the Venezuelan crisis of 1902-2003. . But with time and the new political philosophies of both nations, these rigid tensions slowly but surely faded to suit the contemporary needs of both nations. Ultimately, the leaders of the United States and Venezuela agreed to work together to eliminate the illegal drug trade that has plagued the Latin American continent for decades under the tenure of President Rafael Caldera.
