HOLESGood morning Miss ____ and class, today I will talk to you about why "holes" by Louis Sachar should be included as a new text for English learners for years. If you've seen the holes in the movie, what do you think? You liked it or you didn't like it. Today I will give you my opinion. My opinion of Louis Sachar's Holes is that it is actually a great read and should definitely be included as a new text for future eighth grade English learners. Louis Sachar used a very clever technique, in which there are many subplots, in fact there are six of them: the story of Stanley's great-great-grandfather, Elya and Madame Zeroni, the story of Stanley's great-grandfather and Kissin Kate, the story of Zero and the theft of the sneakers, the story of the warden's search for treasure, the story of Sam the onion man and then there is the main plot with Stanley and zero at the Green Lake campsite. The story of Stanley and Zero is set in the middle of Texas where it is an extremely dry and barren area, there is no water for 100 miles, it seems the only living thing is a lizard called the yellow spotted lizard that could kill anyone with just one bite! I think this is a great place that the author chose to set up a camp for kids, because it makes it more interesting that there are no gates or walls, they could basically go out whenever they want. Kissing Kate was the outlaw of the time when Stanley's great-grandfather was around. He got his name because he would kiss his victims goodbye shortly before killing them. Stanley's great grandfather had just made his fortune in the stock market and was moving from New York to California when kissing Kate the outlaw robbed him and took every penny, but I guess this time he was lucky she didn't have it killed or kissed goodbye, he simply took the money and left Stanley's great-grandfather stranded in the desert. My favorite subplot in the book would probably be the one where Kate and Sam the Onion Man kiss because it takes place in the same location as Zero and Stanley. story but one hundred and ten years ago, and the descriptions are completely different from that of when Sam the onion man and Kate kissing where there was a lush, humid environment full of fresh water, in fact once upon a time there was the largest lake of Texas, once located there, there were also trees where peaches grew.
