Drug Abuse Intervention Case AnalysisColey is a lumberjack addicted to methamphetamine. He has three young children, two girls and a boy, and a wife who he affects every day with his methamphetamine abuse. During the episode Coley locks himself in the garage, so he can snort meth powder without his kids being directly in front. Coley thinks that if he locks himself in the garage his children won't see his behaviors. Coley's addiction stemmed from his childhood where his mother was a drug addict and alcoholic and allowed Coley to do drugs and drink with her throughout his adolescence and late adulthood. After Coley married his wife and his wife recognized that the problem was related to when he was at his mother's house, she asked him not to get involved with his mother. Coley does so and shortly thereafter his mother dies. This leads Coley to more drug abuse and her addiction worsens, due to the guilt she feels for hurting her mother and the guilt that she died alone. Coley somewhat blames his wife for this. Coley has put his family in grave danger due to unpaid bills and putting off work on something he thinks will become his goldmine and it turns out that won't be the case. Throughout the episode I felt a lot of sadness for the children who had to be caught up in his addiction mess. Each child suffered in his own way because he refused to stop using methamphetamine and would come home late at night, so he didn't spend time with his family. I think the child who was most affected was his son. His son repeatedly said he missed his father and that they went fishing and spent time together. His son needs him to look up to, rely on, and teach him more... middle of paper... I can't. I had learned a lot about this just by watching the episode. I never thought that the other end of a relationship with an addict was a problem in itself. I was really happy to see, though, that his wife had received help and in fact Coley did not go through the process alone, that the family as a whole recognized that they needed to heal and deal with more than just the treatment of Coley. I guess to some extent I see how this works hand in hand with treating the addict because when he returns home he returns to a stronger support system that will not enable his past behavior. I really like Intervention, the show because it shows more than the point of view of the addicts, it shows more than just the fact that they go to treatment, it shows families devastated by addiction and gives hope that these families can overcome the disease with all its strength..
