New York Governor David Paterson has suggested "an 18% sales tax on soft drinks and other sugary non-diet beverages to help raise four hundred million a year to plug a hole in the state budget ". Sales collected from sin taxes can be used to implement better sources to help and educate people with vices. Another way a tax increase on junk food would be helpful would be to fairly cover medical services and health insurance. Reducing the price of health insurance would make it available to more people. Furthermore, an increase in the price of products that are not beneficial to health could lead to a reduction in favor of healthy products such as fruit and vegetables, which would help to reinforce good nutrition
