• Judaism: it is the oldest monotheistic (believes in only one god), a religion still registered today. It has around 14 million to 16 million members following today. It is the twelfth largest religion in the world. It was founded by a man named Abraham around 2000 BC Jews study a book called the Torah. Contains the first 5 books of the Old Testament and 613 commandments. Today less than 300 are used. Jews have different types of Jews, first there are the Orthodox. They are very old fashioned and take the Jewish religion very seriously. Then we have the conservative Jews; they are still taking things seriously, but not as seriously as the Orthodox. Last but not least we have the Reform Jews. They adapt to today's society. They believe that girls can be a minister. Jews can be born Jewish but do not necessarily have to believe in the Jewish faith. All Jews pray on the Sabbath, which is the Sabbath, but they cannot work on the Sabbath. What they worship in is called a synagogue. For them it is like a church or a temple. Another great thing about Judaism is that they have this thing where they can't eat things that don't have split hooves and are able to ruminate. So no pork. When it comes to seafood, they must be scaled and have fins. • Christianity: Christianity began as a Jewish sect in Palestine (modern-day Israel) in 33 AD. Today it has over 2 million followers. It is the most widespread religion in the world. Christianity has over 34 million different sects. All Christians believe in Jesus Christ or the Messiah (the Anointed One). He was born between 4 and 6 BC All Christians believe in the Old and New Testaments. In their churches everyone has some kind of sacrament and prayer. One of the greatest things that happened to Christi... middle of paper... and protection) and Shiva (the destroyer). They also believe that you should go to the Ganges River at least a couple of times in your life to bathe when you are sick, drink and throw in the dead. They also wear bindis representing a third eye, which constantly looks inward. and reflect on God. The most populated places to find Hindus are India and Nepal. • Compare and contrast: Judaism and Christianity both believe in the Old Testament. Christians believe in the New Testament. While the Jews did not. Both have some kind of sacrament. They both have a church to worship in. Jews have their church as a temple while some Christian temples are different buildings. They both believe in Moses. Both have a Sabbath day. The Jewish Sabbath day is on the Sabbath, while most Christian Sabbath days are on Sunday. Christianity was a sect of Judaism.
