He wanted Conor to show that a person's twisted thoughts can interfere with one's life, only when one accepts the facts about the why of those thoughts can a person move forward with life. The monster teaches Conor his indirect message by telling him stories that all add up to form an ideology of contradiction of thoughts. The Monster also conveys its message through its ongoing repercussions on Conor's journey. However, these repercussions turn into predictable actions where the monster tries to tell Conor to accept his thoughts by telling the truth about how they came to be and move forward in life. In this way the monster can be symbolized as a father/teacher in the book. Unlike most other books the monster is always depicted as a horrible figure. Patrick ness, as a modern writer, tries to help point a new purpose to a notorious archetype. Maybe one day, as time passes, a new purpose will come
