Impact of Technology on War Technology changes every day, sometimes events in our lives shape the new technology we use. You would have to live in a hole without knowing that we are in conflict with Iraq, and this event has changed the digital war. The US Army has come up with a digital warfare system called the Army Battle Command System. This system can scan digital road maps, monitor enemy positions, zoom in on individual buildings through satellite imagery, and download instructions from commanders. The Army's battle command system ended up in the hands of a handful full of Humvees in Iraq. This technology was originally designed for battlefield combat with tanks and helicopters, but they have now found that it is much more useful for hunting down rebel leaders and chasing down street fighters. This new technology helps commanding officers know what's happening so they can return to the command base and watch raids unfold on large screens and watch footage in real time. This lets them know exactly what's going on. The technology allowed commanders to plan complicated raids and organize battle equipment and hundreds of soldiers within two hours. At that speed, they say, it played an important role in the capture of Saddam Hussein and other fugitives. An important element of the system is that each military vehicle is tracked via satellite and appears as a moving blue icon on the computer screen inside these Humvees. which have been equipped with the Army Battle Command System, this is important for the Humvee driver because he is now able to know where all the tanks and other military vehicles are and this is said to have helped reduce the amount of friendly fire incidents. Before they had this technology, drivers had to communicate via radio with the command base and inform them of the location: “There are no longer guys on a map putting little stickers where things are, now it's done digitally. It allows commanders to move faster, more decisively and more violently.” [1]A useful feature of the Army Battle Command System is a touch screen monitor that allows the officer to place icons on the map and have them appear on screens throughout the system, making them capable of showing the enemy's position, possible ambush locations, fugitive hideouts and bomb locations found along the road.
