In other words, men have to put women on a lower pedestal because of women's so-called “needs” (Devor 6). The “needs” that women express are feminine characteristics. The characteristics of the females listed by Devor show no signs of power or dominance. Since society believes that gender is a patriarchy, women have no influence and need attention.
