As a child, my sister and I would argue heatedly over some of the most random things. Like who would lick leftover cake batter from the bowl, or who would even be the first to stay up late at night on school nights. The most important thing for siblings is parental attitude (handling sibling rivalry), how you handle the situation with each child. In this story Mom handles the situation between Maggie and Dee according to her best judgment. In the end, the mother chose Maggie to give the quilt to, because she maintained her humility towards the family. Another logical reason why the mother chose Maggie could easily be that she has a handicap due to house fires. It was Maggie's handicap that she thought she wasn't as pretty as her sister
