Williams does this through his eloquent use of symbolism. Three symbols seem to reveal Williams' intent particularly accurately; the unicorn, the image of Mr. Wingfield and the trick of Malvolio's coffin. The unicorn is a symbolic representation of the ways in which Laura is unique or unusual. The first facet of the unicorn, its horn, refers to the ways in which Laura is an unusual person, as in she can escape the mechanisms.
