Johnson wrote about Madison who was the most important person who shaped the Constitution. He also talked about the fact that lawyers could basically control the poor and illiterate and take all their money. Johnson wrote extensively about ratification and how states had to ratify the Constitution for it to become law. He also wrote about people's right to vote and the fact that only the privileged could do so. Additionally, Johnson discussed how Christianity was an important part of the Constitution. He went further to state that religion was significant in society. In contrast, Zinn argued that the Constitution should focus more on order and building society rather than on "elites" who want to maintain their status. Zinn wrote: “The Constitution, therefore, illustrates the complexity of the American system: it serves the interests of the wealthy elite” (p. 99). This ultimately led to the division of society between rich and poor. Zinn argued that the U.S. Constitution is neutral neither to the people but rather to the government itself. He went further to discuss the fact that the Constitution only serves the rich, small property owners, the middle class, and so on.
