Hound Of The BaskervillesSetting: Around 1884-85, most of the story takes place at BaskervilleHall in Devonshire. The introduction and conclusion of this classic mystery take place in Sherlock Holmes' residence on Baker Street in London. Plot - We begin our story on Baker Street where Holmes and Watson talk to James Mortimer. He tells him the story of the Baskerville family starting from Hugo, the first victim of the hound, up to the last kill, by Sir Charles Baskerville. The next of kin is informed and he must carry on the family legacy and live out his final years at Baskervillehall in Devonshire. Now, of course, this was the place where Sir Charles Baskerville was killed by this ferocious hound. As the story begins to develop, Holmes sends Watson to Devonshire with Sir Henry to gather information on the recent murder. During his investigations he came across many figures, there was a Mr and Miss Stapleton who were naturalists and also lived on the moor. They introduced themselves as brother and sister, but as you will find out later, they were closer than that. Around this time, an inmate known as "The Notting Hill Criminal" escaped, his real name being Selden Barrymore. One night while Watson and Sir Henry were in the Hall, they observed Mr. Barrymore (the butler) sends signals through the window using a candle. Upon questioning he revealed that he was actually doing his wife a favor as the escaped criminal was his brother-in-law. Dismayed by this, Sir Henry and Watson went to arrest this villain, they reached him in time, but Selden managed to evade the authorities once again. Through the memories of a letter written to Sir Charles Baskerville before his death, it was written by a Miss Laura Lyon from Coombe Tracey. She wrote this letter to finance her divorce and seeing what a good man Sir Charles was she thought he would agree. The meeting took place in Yew Alley, in front of the gate, at around 2am.
