Teen pregnancies and the rate at which young people contract sexually transmitted diseases increase every day. If public schools implemented condom distribution, it would promote safe sex, teach responsibility, and help reduce teen pregnancy rates. Therefore I am convinced that condoms should be distributed in high schools. This can also help reduce the number of teenagers facing problems at a young age. More needs to be done to prevent high school students from finding out the hard way and the harsh consequences that unprotected sex can bring. Condom availability can also encourage teens to make a safe decision. High schools should make condoms available in both nurses' and guidance counselors' offices because they would encourage safe sex, decrease teen pregnancies, and help prevent sexually transmitted diseases among the high school population. Encourage safe sex – According to an article in the “National Association of School Psychologists (2002) parents want to have control over what their teens learn about sex. “Many parents and teachers are against teaching sex education to students because they think it should be taught from home and also believe that it will only encourage teenagers to have sex. It is said that instead of continuing with the promotion of safe sex, schools don't just offer sex education about abstinence and the importance of abstinence. Some parents believe the safest option for preventing teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases is abstinence don't schools start by promoting it?" My answer to this question is because society shows that sex is a good, enjoyable and acceptable thing. Teenagers don't have the knowledge to make sure that... middle of paper.. .cannot have sex at all.Not all teenagers will have sex, however this is a growing problem that is causing teenage mothers and incurable diseases. Schools need to stop trying to hide the problem and make the decision to at least provide some means of protection . Stop thinking about whether it's morally right or whether it sends the wrong message, because it's already a proven fact that condoms dramatically reduce pregnancies and STDs when used correctly. Why shouldn't schools choose the healthier option to educate our teenagers today about the reality of how harmful unprotected sex can be? Why are parents so ignorant in their belief that this should only be taught at home? It is a constant debate between parents and facilitators and in the meantime the ratio becomes higher and higher for teenage pregnancies and/or sexually transmitted diseases.
