We need to research and address the problem of concussions for many reasons. Concussions are caused when the brain is displaced inside a person's head and collides with the inside walls of the skull. In addition to a concussion, this can cause brain bruising, torn blood vessels, and nerve damage. Most concussions cause a change or alteration of some type of consciousness, however a loss of consciousness is not necessary to diagnose a concussion. There are two types of concussions, simple concussions and complex concussions. A person who has a simple concussion typically experiences symptoms that improve within 7 to 10 days. A person who has a complex concussion typically experiences symptoms that last substantially longer than 7 to 10 days. Some symptoms of concussion are headache, nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light and noise, difficulty remembering or concentrating, and difficulty falling asleep. It is not safe for students to be in an environment where concussions can occur, as it harms students both physically and mentally. If this problem is not solved, many things will happen. Students will continue to suffer concussions in classes such as physical education and are also at risk for concussions in extracurricular activities such as soccer, basketball, football, lacrosse and baseball. Following a concussion, students are required to stay home until fully recovered, which could take anywhere from seven days to several months. This affects not only what they learn, but their ability to learn. Our community seeks to reduce the risk of suffering a concussion. We have trucks salting the roads to prevent cars from getting into accidents and people from falling when crossing the road. Also, schools have… half the paper… people are angry about what's happening with technology. They are upset that students intentionally visit inappropriate sites, especially during class. Some people feel the same about cyberbullying and regular bullying, but others feel differently about the two. Regardless, the technology problem needs to be solved, not just in our community, but across the nation. One way other schools are addressing these issues is through “digital citizenship.” Digital citizenship is a concept that helps teachers, parents, and administrators understand what students and children should know to use technology safely. This helps reduce cyberbullying and teaches students what to do and what not to do while online at school or at home. Other schools also block inappropriate websites on school computers, making Internet use safer.
