This book is an extraordinary work of art that contains many emotions. There are many characters in this novel that helped support Vince Papale in his life. His father, Fancis Papale, is a man who grew up during the Great Depression and doesn't show much emotion. Her mother, Almira Papale, was very athletic, but then slowly became mentally ill as she grew up. He had many coaches while growing up and one of his favorite coaches was George Corner. He was very friendly and would never punish anyone for doing something bad. He felt that if you do something bad, you are already punishing yourself. His best friend, Chuck Gardner, is also there. He was the person Vince could count on and he was also his best man. Then there was Eagles coach Dick Vermeil, who thought Vince had character, and Vermeil liked that. There are many other characters in the book, but these are the people who had the greatest influence on Vince's life. Vince grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He came from a poor family that barely met their needs to survive. It was all very stressful for him. Then, when he was about 7 years old, he learned that he was small for his age, but extremely fast. It was then that he began to take an interest in sports. He started doing track, because of his speed. Then his track coach, George Corner, started coaching basketball, so he asked Vince to be on the basketball team. Vince said yes and started playing basketball. A few years later, when he was in high school, he started playing football, because George Corner started coaching football. He used his speed to outrun the defense when offensively as a wide receiver. Then he got a scholarship for athletics and went to collage. After finishing college, he played hard football.
