Hamlet's Transformation In Hamlet, the protagonist Hamlet faced many dilemmas that led to his transformation throughout the play. The people around him and his father's ghost influence him dramatically. Seeing his father's ghost had changed his destiny and the person he had become. The path he chose after meeting his father's ghost led to his death. At the beginning of the story, Hamlet's character was dealing with the sudden marriage of his mother, Gertrude, to his uncle, Claudius, a month after his father's death. . For a young man, it is hard to believe that he understood why his mother quickly married Claudio, especially since Claudio is his uncle. He later learned that his father's ghost had been sighted. Intuitively, he knew there had to be some sort of “foul play.” At this point Hamlet is a college student; his morals and way of thinking are defined by books and what he has been taught. This is seen when he talks about the flaws of men, which create a bad reputation for everyone, and the flaws of man that cause their "downfall". (a.1, sc.4, l.) After meeting his father's ghost, he learns that Claudius killed his father and must take on the task of avenging his death. This meeting completely changed who he is. He said he will sweep away the books, the past and all the things he was taught. He will live “inside the book and the volume of the…brain” (a.1, sc.5, l.). He will only live through this purpose in life and everything else will be erased from his memory. Maybe he's trying to turn off the part of him that knows right from wrong. His purpose is more important than anything else, even if it means destroying people along the way. His mission was greater than he had ever imagined. He was driven by pain and ambition. After meeting the ghost, Hamlet begins to treat people coldly. It is guided by the mind, but not by the heart. Hamlet's acts of cruelty were done because there is no longer any pity or sympathy within him. The way he treats Ophelia, his one true love, is disgusting. He also treated his mother rudely. He felt betrayed by his mother because he loved and trusted her, but she went and married his uncle soon after his father's death..
