However, all families discussed the issue of “acceptance,” rather acceptance for themselves, extended family members, or acceptance by the community and strangers. Other challenges discussed included family outings, discipline, and the child's siblings. On the positive side, all participants discussed how their “views” on life had changed positively. Other positive aspects discussed were the child's growth, support, and relationships built with other families with special needs. The last question of the interview was: What do you think is the most important thing educators need to know about how a child with special needs affects family dynamics? For this question, each parent discussed issues of acceptance. One parent expressed understanding that everyone is different and not treating all children the same. Another parent said educators need to understand family dynamics and how they affect their children. Finally, all parents seemed to want educators to understand that they were doing their best to accommodate their special needs
