Topic > How the Influence of Others Can Change One's Beliefs

92655When a child is born, he or she is born without knowledge or fear of the world. As they grow up they begin to develop their own beliefs based on the influence of other people. The same idea can be seen throughout history. Other people's words and actions have caused many great events. Memorable events almost always have a person, or many people, who influenced them. People change their beliefs based on how other people have influenced them. Through the words and actions of others, beliefs are constantly evolving. Throughout history it can be seen that doubt causes people to change their beliefs, because new facts and ideas begin to present themselves across people and time. Beliefs and influences are two very strong ideas. Beliefs are the acceptance that a statement is true or that something exists. They are created through the experiences you have, making you accept or believe in something. Influences are the ability to have an effect on the character, development, or behavior of someone or something, or the effect itself. These effects on a person are what pushes them to change what they currently believe to be true. They begin to cause doubts within a person. The period of the Enlightenment brought about a great change in the beliefs of the world, especially Europe. European citizens began to doubt everything they once believed. During this period the government's views changed dramatically. These evolutionary changes occurred because millions of people were influenced by someone who caused them to doubt their personal beliefs. King Henry VIII was once known as the defender of the faith. This was important to the English people because many of them were very devout Catholics, like him. The kings had a common influence on their...middle class......they tried to get into a lot of debt, which didn't sit well with the middle and lower class. In 1789 the Bastille was stormed during the Pairs riots, which started the French Revolution, but they did so because they were influenced by their king and began to doubt his actions. Citizens' doubt about the king led them to change their beliefs about government, no longer approving of an absolute monarch. Time and time again we see people change their beliefs because of someone else. Every interaction a person has affects them in one way or another, causing them to doubt what they once believed to be true. "Doubt grows with knowledge." - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Wolfgang's words are still true today, as during the Enlightenment. If it wasn't for people's doubts we wouldn't be where we are today. As far as today's doubts are concerned we would not be able to progress for the future.
