Every Monday at the beginning of the lesson we were given the homework for that week. The teacher provided a tutorial on what we needed to do and was available during lessons for anyone who needed help. This teacher found that not everyone typed at the same speed and that some students completed all their homework in one or two classes, while other students typed more slowly and needed additional instruction to complete their homework. If a student completed their assigned work and turned in their work, they could work on other assignments from different classes. This teacher realized that homework didn't just impact students; however, homework also impacted others since it was the late 1990s when computers were not in every single household and it would be impossible for some students to complete homework outside of class time. Homework is not a strategy that works for all children. Due to the possible negative effects of decreasing student motivation and interest, thus indirectly compromising performance, homework should be assigned judiciously and moderately (National). Additionally, a 2012 study found no relationship between the amount of time spent on homework and grades, but did find a positive link between homework and performance on standardized tests (Wallace).
