Mexico is a country rich in tradition, history and culture. Unfortunately, Mexico hasn't been talked about lately for any of those descriptions I mentioned above. Mexico has become a country full of death and violence. Since December 2006, the Mexican government has been fighting a war against drug traffickers. At the same time, drug cartels are fighting each other for control of the territory. More than 60,000 people were killed (CNN). Despite the “war” waged against these multi-billion dollar organized crime groups, Mexico has been unable to stop its fall into a failed state. Almost every day there seems to be dead bodies lying on the ground, a school closed due to vandalism, missing people, or bullet-riddled homes and cars. Unfortunately, there is not much that Mexican citizens can do to seek justice and change the situation they live in right now. So who is to blame for all this? Mexican drug cartels have completely taken over Mexico. They became powerful through corruption and violence. Cartels use their power to intimidate and even kill anyone who tries to stand in their way. They have no problem decapitating heads to make a statement. Drug cartels also use their money to gain power. Given the amount of money they have, the cartels have invested millions of dollars to keep the authorities out of their business. They can be very effective at bribing government officials at all levels, from Border Patrol simply patrolling the border to high-ranking state and federal officials. Given the resources they have, they can reach out and kill government officials at all levels. As government officials face bribes and/or certain death, even the most indestructible are captured… middle of paper… er, but as a way to integrate into society. Because the Mexican economy is so poor, the only apparent possibility of becoming someone in Mexico is to get involved in organized crime. From this article I got valuable information that shows that drugs are taking over Mexico through corruption and money, which apparently is more important than education and providing jobs to the people. I believe this source will give me insight into how drugs rule Mexico. It also shows me how the economy plays and its important role in recruiting young people into organized crime, which will be a good addition to add to my project. This article is from a respected site, so the credibility is verified and it is also within my time frame for my project. The author was biased in believing that the education system was responsible for the current state of Mexico.
