ContextIn 2009, London's Roca Gallery, a Spanish bathroom design company, commissioned Zara Hadid Architects to design and build an iconic, organic, multi-purpose showroom in London. This space aims to be much more than a simple exhibition showroom; it aimed to offer space for a range of activities such as exhibitions, seminars, debates and meetings. The showroom was located at Station Court Imperial Wharf, London, near Chelsea Habour, a very important place for Roca: “For Roca it is essential to be present in a city like London which is a point of reference for design and innovation in world level. global level. London is also of strategic importance for our future business development as it allows us to be close to our key international distributors and customers." (Miguel Angel Munar)Since Chelsea Habour is already a central location for many prestigious designer showroom brands, this location was the most desirable for them. They chose to have their showroom on the 1,100 m2 ground floor of a residential building. This posed a challenge for Zara Hadid Architects at the start of the project as the space was originally supposed to be divided into a few different shop fronts. The client subsequently chose to occupy the entire space, which involved a complete redesign of the front facade. Nonetheless, this position was not to be criticized when it succeeded in creating the dramatic effect that architects Roca and Zara Hadid were looking for; this corner location allowed the building to be immediately seen from all angles, exiting Imperial Warf station and also Imperial Road. It gives the most striking first impressions, even when viewing the building from afar, because of the way the facade creates the building to instantly stand out... middle of paper... reveals the incredible interior and opens space for the extraordinary outdoor images of Imperial Warf.Works Citedhttp://uk.phaidon.com/agenda/architecture/picture-galleries/2011/october/20/zaha-hadid-rocks-roca-london-gallery/ http ://www.rocalondongallery.com/en/buildinghttp://www.zaha-hadid.com/architecture/roca-london-gallery/http://www.designboom.com/architecture/zaha-hadid-roca-london -gallery/http://www.dezeen.com/2011/10/13/roca-london-gallery-by-zaha-hadid-architects/http://www.allaboutbim.info/2011/10/roca-london -gallery-zaha-hadid.htmlhttp://www.archdaily.com/256413/architects-eye-exhibition-discussion-panel-at-roca-london-gallery/architects-eye-03/http://en. wikipedia.org/wiki/Zaha_HadidTimes Topics.
