Topic > Analysis of Sacrificial Rebellion in Antigone - 829

The acts of rebellion depicted by each character encourage the reader to stand up for their principles, no matter how severe the consequences for doing so. Becoming a martyr for her beliefs, Antigone states that her unjust death will remain imprinted in everyone's memory when she prays to her Gods: "You will remember what things I suffer and at what hands of men, for I would not transgress." the laws of heaven" (Sophocles 1020). In contrast, Harrison's brief moment of victorious celebration is immediately forgotten even by his own parents the moment it is interrupted, leaving little doubt that Harrison's courage failed to to shake anyone from their adherence to authority or their illusory equality. Ultimately, Antigone succeeded in achieving her goal despite her death, while Harrison died before he could realize his vision.
