Topic > The Argument Against Gun Control - 2136

Throughout history gun control has been used by governments around the world with negative results. Forms of gun control have been used by governments as a way to disarm people and prevent revolutions. One of the greatest examples in history of negative gun control is Germany. Adolf Hitler issued a statement that all German citizens must surrender their weapons, otherwise they will be considered enemies of the country. For example: "The National Revolution units SA, SS and Stahlhelm offer every German of good reputation the opportunity to join them to fight. Therefore, anyone who does not belong to one of these named units and nevertheless guards his weapon without authorization or even concealing it, he must be considered an enemy of the national government and will be held responsible without hesitation and with the utmost severity." (Wolverton). Hitler disarmed his people before starting a mass genocide, killing millions of people. No one knows if the weapons could have helped fight against the German government, but Hitler knew that if he disarmed the people they would not fight back. Even before Germany, other forms of arms control have been linked to tyrannical governments throughout history. For example, "History is clear. Our founding fathers knew from sad experience and from their study of history that one of the telltale signs of a tyrant is to disarm anyone who might oppose him. It was true in Athens, circa 490 BC It was true in Germany, circa 1930. And it's true in the United States, circa 2016" (Wolverton). Gun control and other forms of gun control have been used negatively throughout history. Many people argue that gun control is only the beginning of completely disarming the population. It doesn't matter if you are pro or anti guns; it cannot be argued that gun control and other forms of gun control have been linked to tragic events and corrupt governments everywhere
